Qualified individuals are invited by the Woods Hole Sea Grant program to submit applications for the Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship. Approximately fifty individuals are selected nationally for this prestigious Fellowship to spend a year in Washington, D.C., working in Congress or the Executive Branch on critical marine policy and resource management issues. The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a stipend and living expense allowance totaling $56,500. The one-year Fellowship begins February 1, 2017.
Each year, Woods Hole Sea Grant nominates up to six students to the National Sea Grant College Program for Knauss Fellowships. Nominees must be enrolled in a U.S. accredited graduate or professional degree program in a marine or aquatic-related field in the U.S. or its territories as of February 12, 2016.
Applications are due to Woods Hole Sea Grant by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016.
Selected applicants will be interviewed by the Woods Hole Sea Grant Director after application materials are received. Final submission of application packets is due to the National Sea Grant office by March 31, 2016.
Selection criteria for the fellowship include: academic excellence, communication skills, diversity and appropriateness of academic background, additional qualifying experience, support of the student's major professor and the Sea Grant director, evidence of the ability to work well with others, and the balance among applicants by discipline and geographic representation.
For the Fellowship Class of 2017, the selection process and subsequent notification of finalists by the National Sea Grant College Program will be completed by June 3rd, 2016. Finalists will be required to participate in “Placement Week,” an orientation program in Washington, D.C. typically held during late November or early December (Sun-Thurs) in 2016.

McDowell, Director, Woods Hole Sea Grant, by phone: 508-289-2557 or email: jmcdowell at whoi.edu <mailto:jmcdowell at whoi.edu>.
