I would like to invite the organizations in your network to celebrate World Oceans Day - the UN-recognized day of ocean action and celebration held every June 8th.

As someone who cares about the ocean, we wanted to give you a rundown of what's planned for this year if you'd like to join in. A major goal under the theme Healthy oceans, healthy planet is to help people reduce their disposable plastic use, to keep the ocean and its animals safer and healthier.
A few ways you can celebrate World Oceans Day:

* Hold a World Oceans Day event<http://worldoceansday.org/planning>. Your celebration can be big or small, as long as you're doing something for your local environment.

o Check out some ideas for youth<http://www.worldoceansday.org/7-ways-to-connect-kids-everywhere-to-the-ocean/> and teen projects<http://www.worldoceansday.org/youth/teens/projects/>

o Download resources from the Octonauts<http://www.worldoceansday.org/octonauts/>

o Check out the collection of plastic pollution prevention activities<http://www.worldoceansday.org/plastic-showcase/>

o Find ways to get your faith community involved!<http://www.worldoceansday.org/how-faith-based-groups-can-protect-the-ocean/>

o Be sure to register your celebration<http://worldoceansday.org/submit> on the website and share with the world.

* Take the Better Bag Challenge<http://worldoceansday.org/challenge>, and ask others to join you. Don't take any disposable plastic bags for a whole year! Or, if you already bring a better bag, cut microbeads or plastic utensils out of your life. Download the Organizer's Guide<http://worldoceansday.org/challenge-organizer> and ask others to join you at your celebration.

* Click here to tweet this now<http://ctt.ec/675b8>: Send this info to your family, friends, and colleagues.

* Download new graphics and promotional materials<http://worldoceansday.org/promote> for World Oceans Day, including French and Spanish versions.
You can keep in touch with World Oceans Day on Facebook<http://facebook.com/WorldOceansDay> and Twitter<http://twitter.com/TheOceanProject>, or send the coordinator an email<mailto:aisakower at theoceanproject.org>.
