New Staff at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary
Mass Audubon at Felix Neck welcomes Alexandra (Ally) Ferland to the Felix Neck Staff. Ally is Felix Neck’s new Education Assistant, and will work closely with Josey Kirkland, Education Coordinator, to provide nature education programming to students in the Island school system. She will also lead public programs for the community at the Sanctuary during the summer season.
Graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Conservation, Ally’s focus was environmental conservation. Ally believes that her childhood on Martha’s Vineyard led to her passion for the natural world. Ally explains “the idea of sharing knowledge and awareness of the importance of conserving this island is what gets me excited and gets me up in the morning.” We are delighted to have Ally here as the newest member of our Felix Neck Team!
Ally will be heading up our Nursery School Naturalist program for preschoolers beginning April 2nd. This program runs every other Thursday from April 2nd-June 11th at the Sanctuary from 10:30am-11:30am. Participants will look for signs of spring and watch the season unfold at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary through stories, crafts, walks, live animal presentations, and more! Ages 3-5 with a parent/friend, $6 per child for members of Mass Audubon and $9 per session for nonmembers.
About Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary
Felix Neck is a sanctuary for both wildlife and people, protecting some of the Vineyard’s most valuable habitats and wildlife and most spectacular views. Four miles of trails through woodlands, meadows, ponds, salt marsh, and barrier beach allow for exploration, discovery, and quiet contemplation. Delight in the nature that unfolds; nesting osprey and other birds, butterflies, and a wealth of sea creatures that make Felix Neck their home.
About Mass Audubon
Mass Audubon works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. Together with more than 100,000 members, we care for 35,000 acres of conservation land, provide school, camp, and other educational programs for 225,000 children and adults annually, and advocate for sound environmental policies at local, state, and federal levels. Founded in 1896 by two inspirational women who were committed to the protection of birds, Mass Audubon is now one of the largest and most prominent conservation organizations in New England. Today we are respected for our sound science, successful advocacy, and innovative approaches to connecting people and nature. Each year, our statewide network of wildlife sanctuaries welcomes nearly half a million visitors of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and serves as the base for our work. To support these important efforts, call 800-AUDUBON (800-283-8266) or visit www.massaudubon.org.
