WILD CARE PHOTO COMPETITION CELEBRATES NATURAL CAPE COD

Eastham, MA - Thursday June 11th. For the second year in a row, Wild Care Cape Cod, the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Eastham, is hosting an online photo competition that helps celebrate the beauty of our region. From June 15th through July 31st, amateur and professional photographers who live on or are visiting the Cape can go on a photographic adventure into the wild as part of Wild Care’s “Natural Cape Cod” photo competition. From beaches to forests, lakes and salt marshes, the natural beauty of Cape Cod is unsurpassed. Wild Care wants to see your favorite(s) photos of the natural places here on the Cape that most amaze and inspire you. It is only $10 per photo entry and all proceeds benefit Wild Care’s work rescuing and treating injured, ill and orphaned wild animals, and starting on June 15th, photographers can begin submitting their entries on Wild Care’s website: www.wildcarecapecod.org.
A panel of professionals will judge the photo entries on originality, composition, technical excellence, artistic merit, and overall impact.
Julia Cumes returns as one of our judges this year. Julia is an award-winning photojournalist with a Masters in Photojournalism from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School. Julia lives and work on the Cape, and in addition to specializing in weddings, life portraits, travel and editorial photography, she also teaches photo workshops locally. Most recently, she was awarded the 2015 "Art Within Reach" grant for her project and solo show “Invisible Selves: Exploring Female Identity and Experience” which was presented at the Cape Cod Art Association.
Joe Rossetti, a weekday radio host and DJ on WCOD and co-host on the Wicked Cool morning show on Cool 102 is a long time Wild Care supporter who has featured many Wild Care patients’ pictures with his numerous Face Book fans and friends. Joe is a prolific photographer and passionate Cape Codder who regularly celebrates the great things about living on Cape Cod. As he says himself “ Family, Friends & Photography drive me no matter what season we're making our way through. I love the Cape …and I’m all about being local..”
Marcia Duggan, owner of CapeCodSoul in Orleans is a full time professional Master/Craftsman photographer and print judge. She is known for her Aerial Art Photography and Cape Cod Coastal Fine Art photos. Marcia’s photos have been widely exhibited, including at The Cape Museum of Fine Arts, The Cahoon Museum, The Chocolate Sparrow and Orleans Camera centers. Her CCSoul Photo a Day Face Book page and CapeCodSoul Instagram (#CCSPhotoADay) are popular free sites to post daily photos inspired by a monthly calendar of prompt words. In the past two years, CCSoul Photo A Day has grown to over 1,000 photo enthusiasts and professional photographers worldwide.

For the top three winning photos there are great prizes that include 1/2 Hour “Flightseeing” plane ride , dinner for two in the Sacred Cod Tavern at Chatham Bars Inn and a gift certificate from Orleans Camera. The winning photos will be exhibited on Wild Care's website throughout the month of August.

Wild Care’s wildlife rehabilitators treat birds, mammals and reptiles brought to the center, with the goal of releasing them back into the wild when they are capable of independent survival. Through public education, Wild Care works to prevent wildlife casualties and to engage the community in conservation through volunteerism. Since our founding, Wild Care has accepted over 25,000 wild creatures, representing over 275 species of native birds, mammals and reptiles. If you encounter injured, orphaned or ill wildlife, please call the Wild Care of Cape Cod helpline at 508-240-2255. Visit Wild Care’s website at www.wildcarecapecod.org <http://www.wildcarecapecod.org/> to make a donation.
