July Butterfly Counts 2015
The July Butterfly Counts are ongoing this month. The Falmouth
Count is on Saturday,
July 18 at 30 am.
We meet at Crane Wildlife Management Area off Rte. 151 in
Hatchville. We shall cover several areas of Crane, led by Joe
Dwelly. Everyone whether experienced or not is welcome to
participate. We might be out for 2 or 3 or 4 hours, depending on
the weather and the success on spotting butterflies. Joe will keep
a record of what we see, and the more people we have the more
spotting we will do.
I will cover a few other sites in Falmouth on my own.
We do not catch the butterflies but spot them, look at them through
binoculars to identify them, and never get in their way. No one
should catch butterflies as they are becoming more scarce because of
lack of habitat and insecticides.
You should bring a light lunch, water, a sun hat and sun screen and
$3. I suggest long pants because there is poison ivy in a few
areas. Your choice.
We hope to see you there. I attach the schedule of the other
counts on the Cape. You can find a schedule of all the counts in
Massachusetts at www.naba.org
Do join us !
