Immediate Opening: New England Wild Flower Society
Botanical Coordinator
The New England Wild Flower Society has an opening for a Botanical
Coordinator. This position is responsible for managing data on the
conservation of plants in New England and for developing and administering
the Plant Conservation Volunteer (PCV) program.
Responsibilities include:
· Manage GIS and associated data on rare and common plants of New
England and the Society’s associated conservation activities. Create
reports and maps integral to the program.
· Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers in all six New England
states in surveying rare plant occurrences, managing rare and common plant
sites, collecting seed, controlling invasive exotic plant species, and
performing general botanical surveys. Applicants *must* be willing to
travel throughout New England and to work weekends as required for
volunteer training sessions and outings. The Coordinator will work closely
with public and private environmental organizations, especially each
state’s Natural Heritage Program (or its equivalent), in the administration
of this program.
· Manage invasive species as needed as part of Society projects.
· Perform botanical surveys of rare and common plant species and
their associated plant communities.
· Supervise other support staff, including interns and office
volunteers.
· Write grants and pursue funding sources to support conservation
programs.
Skills:
· Experience with GIS systems and associated data.
· Experience with MS Access and other standard computer operating
programs.
· A working knowledge of the flora and habitats of New England.
· Familiarity with Natural Heritage methodology.
· Demonstrated competence in conducting ecological or botanical
field work.
· Ability to work in various and sometimes difficult terrain in
inclement weather.
· Experience working with and training volunteers.
· Ability to communicate clearly (written and orally), interact well
with the public, and feel comfortable conducting public education and
outreach.
· Strong organizational skills.
This full-time, exempt position includes a benefits package.

pesticide license as directed.
