The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents
Beekeeping for Beginners


BREWSTER, MA ­ The Cape Cod Museum of Natural 
History will offer a course on beekeeping 
Wednesday evenings March 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 7pm to 9 pm.

The course will be taught by George Muhlebach, a 
hobby beekeeper for over 30 years, who has run 
the CCMNH bee program for the last eight years. 
George will cover the required hardware, the 
biology of the honey bee, bee keeping tasks 
through the seasons as well as the honey 
harvest.  The Museum’s four outdoor hives will 
give the opportunity to get hands on experience 
on how to assemble the hardware, how to start a 
new hive (the “hiving procedure”) and how to 
assess the health of a developing hive. We will 
also discuss some of the recent results of 
current bee research. This course does not 
require any prior knowledge of beekeeping.  It is 
designed to be of equal interest to the person 
who wants to get into beekeeping and to those who 
simply want to know more about the “busy bees” 
that provide us the delicious treat of honey and 
many of the fruits and vegetables. Bees have a 
symbiotic relationship with flowering plants so 
beekeepers help to maintain the biodiversity of our ecosystem!

The classes will be held at the Museum on 
Wednesdays, March 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm


The cost is $25 per person and 4 volunteer hive 
openings during the 2015 season.
