The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents
Naturalist & Author Peter Trull
“The Gray Curtain”

BREWSTER, MA The Cape Cod Museum of Natural
History in Brewster, MA presents The Gray
Curtain; The Impact of Seals, Sharks & Commercial
Fishing on the Northeast Coast with educator,
naturalist and author Peter Trull, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1pm.

Through enthusiastic discussion and vivid images,
author and Field Naturalist Peter Trull will
discuss and explain the relationship between
commercial fishing, expanding Gray Seal
populations, and Great White Sharks along the
beaches of Cape Cod and the northeast coast. This
"Gray Curtain" has come about as a result of
geologic and environmental changes, as well as
animal migrations and population increases that
have impacted the area. Each has had an effect on
the location and, though daily and seasonal
changes are accepted as normal, there are great
transformations taking place that may go
unnoticed, some, unexplained. While fishermen and
scientists don't always agree on why the changes
have occurred, both have played a role in these
dynamic coastal changes. In the minds of many
commercial fishermen, the return of the
now-protected gray seal has played a major part
causing a new charismatic apex predator to enter
the picture; the Great White Shark. This
enlightening and colorful program will bring
together the main factors that have created the phenomenon of The Gray Curtain.

Peter Trull has been involved in Research and
Education for 35 years. He presently teaches 7th
grade Science at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter
School in Harwich MA, and holds a Master’s Degree
in Education. He has written six books about Cape
Cod natural history. His newest book The Gray
Curtain was released in June 2015.
