Join nationally recognized turkey expert and Plymouth summer resident Dr. Jim Dickson to learn more about our intriguing woodland neighbors - the wild turkeys. While quite plentiful in Massachusetts before European immigration and for many years afterwards, by 1851 turkeys were gone from the state. A successful reintroduction of this intriguing species was undertaken in Massachusetts in the 1970's and today the turkey struts across woodlands and fields statewide eliciting admiration and fascination.

Dr. Dickson, author of The Wild Turkey: Biology and Management, the much lauded reference on the species, will tell us all about the wild turkey including facts on its lifestyle, biology, habits and conservation. Do turkeys eat ticks? Should you feed them in winter? Can you hunt them? At what age do turkeys  fly? What sorts of calls do they make (and will Dr. Dickson, a Champion Turkey Caller,  imitate some for us)? Find out the answers to these and many more questions at “Talkin’ Turkey!”

If the weather is good, the talk will take place outside, so bring insect repellent if you so desire. The talk is free and pre-registration is not required.
