Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary Presents:
2015 Spring Field Studies Programs for Outdoor Education
The Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary offers a bi-annual program of multi-day field courses in which nature enthusiasts can explore the dynamic coastal environment of Cape Cod.
Nature Photography on Cape Cod
Dates: May 13-16, 2015
Location: Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, 345 Bone Hill Rd. Barnstable, MA 02637
Instructor: Laura Gingerich, Photographer
Through hands-on learning, participants will explore the art of digital photography in one of Cape Cod's most beautiful settings- Sandy Neck Barrier Beach. The class will emphasize the aesthetic and technical aspects of composing a shot in order to bring your outdoor photography to the next level.
The class will begin with basics and move into the manual modes using all that the camera has to offer. We will have rare classroom access to the remote field station located on the edge of the 8,000-acre Barnstable Great Marsh as well as to the legendary Sandy Neck Lighthouse. With plenty of time among the dunes, salt marshes, and woodlands of the area, the day will be a feast for the lens.
With its diverse and unique wildlife habitats including migrating dunes, beaches, tidal flats, wetlands, and maritime forests, Sandy Neck is a coastal wilderness experience and a photographer's dream. The "golden hours" of photography will determine the field schedule with plenty of time for lectures, class discussions, and photo critiques.
About the Instructor:
Laura L. Gingerich is an award-winning freelance photographer specializing in the documentation of mission and relief worldwide. She's worked throughout the countryside of India, Haiti, Mexico, Jamaica, Israel, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Pakistan providing images and documentation material for non-profits and international NGO's. Her images along the Khyber Pass, the West Bank, Gaza, and Abbottabaad were portrayed in the show, "Crossing the Line, A Journey through Islam". In the past two years Laura has been working extensively in Haiti on a project to alter the way the world provides "help" to developing nations. When Laura is not on assignment, nature provides a sense of balance as well as a classroom for her very popular photography workshops.
