Join us for two free and exciting events this week!

OLD HARBOR REFUGE WALK

Accompany Sally Godfrey for a guided walk at Old Harbor Wildlife Refuge on Thursday,
April 23rd at 10:00am. Keep your eyes peeled for signs of some of our favorite early
spring botanicals.

Sally will lead our walk and share some of her knowledge of local flora. This walk
will be weather-dependent, so please check our Facebook page or call our office 
for last-minute updates: 508-636-9228.

This walk is free and open to the public. Wear comfortable, waterproof, sturdy shoes

MILL POND GROVE

This spring the Mill Pond Conservation Area will undergo a transformation. The one
acre field that abuts Reed Road will be planted with 30 fruit trees to create the
Mill Pond Grove. Ten different varieties of fruit trees will be planted including:
Twenty Ounce, an heirloom apple variety from New Bedford; Liberty, Goldrush, Akane
and Belmac apples that are all known for disease resistance; three hardy peach varieties;
and an assortment of Asian pear trees, paw paws and berry plants. The Mill Pond 
Grove will be an experimental, non-commercial community fruit tree grove that is
 holistically managed without the use of chemical sprays and fertilizers. The goal
is to have annual harvest festivals, cider presses, work parties and educational
 workshops that bring the community together around a shared love for fruit and 
Westport's agricultural heritage. In order to make this experiment a success, we
 need you to get involved and contribute your skills and knowledge to this exciting

Since its founding in 1972, the Westport Land Conservation Trust has  assisted landowners
in protecting more than 3,988 acres in Westport,  Massachusetts. WLCT is a private
non-governmental organization dedicated  to local land conservation on behalf of
 the Westport community. The  organization accepts gifts of land and conservation
restrictions on  land, and assists farm owners in preserving farmland with agricultural
 preservation restrictions.
