Scott, Lisa and Doug - our Marine Animal Entanglement Response (MAER) team - are
 on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

They rarely take days off - any down-time they have depends on the availability 
of assistant crew-members who work in other CCS research programs.

When the rescue Hotline rings, the MAER team takes to the water whenever sea conditions,
weather and daylight allow. They travel out of state and overseas to assist with particularly difficult entanglements
and to train local disentanglement teams.

They know that saving the lives of two or three females could mean the difference

However, the MAER team is stretched to capacity - and beyond.

They need help - another full-time responder who can learn this dangerous craft 
and bear some of the unrelenting pressure of their vital work. Another pair of hands
to help ease the suffering of entangled whales, sea turtles and other marine animals.

But there's a problem; there is simply not enough money in the MAER budget to allow
them to hire the help that they so desperately need.

One more MAER responder means more capacity to assist entangled animals like the
 humpback shown on the right, who was freed by MAER in 2012. More time to train 
new response teams. More opportunities to reach out to the community to encourage
them to report entanglements.
