32 AmeriCorps Cape Cod Positions Open for 2014-2015

AmeriCorps Cape Cod members:
- Partner with nonprofit organizations, governmental departments and community-based groups to conserve, protect and restore the unique and fragile ecosystems of Cape Cod. Projects include habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, invasive species removal, trail building and maintenance and shellfish propagation.
- Prepare the Cape Cod community for disaster AND respond to disasters when needed. Projects include emergency shelter operations, marine mammal stranding response and disaster response planning.
- Educate and involve the Cape Cod community and visitors by leading environmental and disaster preparedness education programs. Perform an environmental puppet show; give presentations on coastal ecology, water conservation, recycling, winter weather safety and sheltering in place.
- Inspire and engage others in service by organizing community volunteer service projects.
- 6 of the 32 members will work with the Cape Cod National Seashore completing various wildfire management practices, including fuels reduction and prescribed burns.
Requirements/qualifications: Min. 18 years old; U.S. citizen, a national, or a legal permanent resident; Minimum of 2 years of college, work, and/or volunteer experience; perform demanding physical labor; commitment to community service and environmental service; work well in a team setting; possess initiative; provide own reliable motor-vehicle; be available for a term of service running from September 3, 2014 - July 30, 2015.
Compensation: Living stipend, free housing, skills training, health insurance, travel allowance and an educational award of $5,550 after successful completion of the program. Cannot offer housing to spouses, dependents or pets.
