PAY TO PEE? FALMOUTH LOOKS AT WASTEWATER COSTS
Excess nitrogen is degrading the ponds, estuaries, and coastal waters of Cape Cod. Local government is under pressure to "solve the problem." What, exactly, is being proposed? There are several possibilities. How much will the different proposals cost? (How will households and small business owners pay for the proposed projects? What happens to low-income and moderate-income families that are already under financial pressure? Will financial assistance be available?)
A citizens forum on wastewater costs is scheduled for Saturday, March 8th, at the main branch of the public library in Falmouth. This event will begin at 10 am and it will end at noon.... The public is invited. Free event. The meeting room is accessible for people with disabilities.... There will be a panel discussion, after the main presentations, and the public will have the opportunity to ask questions.... The Falmouth library's main branch is located at 300 Main Street, in downtown Falmouth.
Speakers include....
o Virginia Valiela - Falmouth Water Quality Management Committee
o Ron Zweig - Citizens for Economic and Environmental Sustainability
o Earle Barnhardt - The Green Center, Hatchville, MA
Although the March 8th presentations will focus on Falmouth's wastewater concerns, all people are invited. What happens in Falmouth will be important for many of the coastal communities in Massachusetts.
