The Adventures of Catboat Kathleen by Tim Fallon
This is the story of Kathleen, her adventures and the results of an experiment
to recreate one of the fastest racing catboats of all time.
Catboat Kathleen is a Cape Cod racing catboat designed by Monument Beach’s
Charles C. Hanley in the early 1900’s and traditionally built at the Beetle boat
shop a century later.
In the golden age of the catboat from 1875 through the early 1900’s, Charles C.
Hanley was producing the fastest racing catboats of all time. In his shop in
Monument Beach, he built a line of fast catboats and centerboard sloops that
were sought after by the days wealthiest yachtsmen.
Today there are but few pictures and stories of Hanley Cats and no one had any
first hand knowledge of these celebrated boats until in 2006, the Beetle Boat
shop launched an extremely accurate rendition of a 28’ C.C. Hanley designed
catboat.
Thursday February 13 at 7:00 PM at the Trowbridge Tavern Canal Club, 100
Trowbridge Rd, Bourne.
Open to all. Admission is Free. Donations accepted to support BCB.
