Dr. Robert Brock presents
"What ocean conservation lessons can we learn from our whaling past?"
Wednesday, December 17 at 7 pm at Napi's Restaurant, Freeman Street, Provincetown.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whaling was once the most significant economic driver in New England. Dr Robert
Brock will review Provincetown's commercial whaling history and discuss how we can
use the maritime past to learn about current ocean conservation issues such as sustainability,
adaptability and diversity.
Dr. Brock is a Marine Biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's
(NOAA) National Marine Protected Areas Center at NOAA Headquarters in Silver Spring,
Maryland. Raised in Provincetown, Dr Brock is a graduate of Veterans Memorial School
and Provincetown High School and holds a Doctorate (Aquatic Ecology) from the University
of Florida.
Dr. Brock is a frequent technical advisor to the U.S. Department of State and several
international bodies. Prior to his current position, he served as a Fishery Biologist
in the NOAA Fisheries Service's Office of Science and Technology, a Supervisory
Marine Biologist with the National Park Service (NPS) in Homestead and Key Largo,
Florida, a Biologist for the U.S. Geological Survey and a Marine Biologist with
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Although his work has taken him from Estonia to Japan and Australia to Greece and
pretty much everywhere in between, Dr. Brock considers Provincetown home.
