*Environmental Monitoring Internship*

*Summer 2014*

The Center for Coastal Studies is a non-profit organization dedicated to
conducting scientific research with emphasis on marine mammals of the
western North Atlantic and on the coastal and marine habitats and resources
of the Gulf of Maine. CCS has been conducting research and marine and
coastal educational programs on Cape Cod for over 37 years.

*Intern Responsibilities:*

Intern will assist with field sampling and laboratory analysis for the
Provincetown beach monitoring project looking at the environmental impacts
of beach raking.  As part of this project, which is in its third season,
the intern will collect and filter porewater, process wrack samples, and
plate bacteria samples from beach sand.  This project takes place on Monday
and Tuesday and is tidally based so you must be available for the full day
and willing to work around the tidal schedule which will be given to you at
the beginning of the season.  There may also be possibilities for the
intern to participate in water quality sampling both on and off shore.

Interns must have their own transportation, and housing is not provided.
This position is for 15-20 hours per week Monday-Wednesday at $10 per hour
for a total of 15 weeks.  This position is from May 19-August 29 however
there is some flexibility in these dates.

*Qualifications:*

   - The internship is open to students who are currently enrolled in, or
   recently graduated from an accredited college or university.  A minimum
   of one year of undergraduate experience is required.
   - Intern must be working towards or completed a degree in environmental
   studies, marine science, biology or other related fields.
   - Intern should demonstrate strong attention to detail and
   organizational skills.
   - Must be capable of walking stretches of beach carrying equipment.
   - Must be willing to work around a tidal schedule.
   - Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
   - Must be comfortable working outside in all conditions.
   - Must be comfortable working with and handling marine species.
   - Preference will be given to someone with secured housing on Cape Cod.
