Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary presents

The State of the Birds 2013
Join Mass Audubon's leading scientists for an update on the landmark 2011 State of the Birds report. Each illustrated lecture is paired with a special companion walk on the same day.

The Breeding Birds of Massachusetts
Joan Walsh, Mass Audubon's director of bird monitoring, will discuss the results of the Breeding Bird Atlas 2 and the 2013 State of the Birds report, with a focus on Cape Cod species. Learn about the important role that Cape Cod plays in preserving biodiversity in the State and how we can help declining species.

Where Have All Our Grasslands Gone?
Wayne Petersen, Mass Audubon's director of the Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program, will examine the decline of our state's grassland and shrubland birds. Learn more about how the data collected for the Breeding Bird Atlas 2 and the State of the Birds Report helps in conservation planning.

Halting the Decline of Breeding Birds
Kim Peters, Mass Audubon's chief scientist, will give an overview of the breeding bird species that are in decline. Decades of research by ecologists and ornithologists have helped point the way to specific solutions in which we can all play a part. Find out what our organization is doing to address the so-called drivers of decline and how concerned citizens can get involved.

Join Christopher Leahy, Mass Audubon's Gerard A. Bertrand Chair of Natural History and Field Ornithology, for an exclusive gallery talk in the new exhibition "Audubon's Birds, Audubon's Words," which features 30 of the artist's works paired with writings that illuminate his methods and inner thoughts. We will travel by van to the MFA and have an opportunity to thoroughly explore the exhibit after the talk. Please bring a brown bag lunch, or plan to purchase lunch in the museum cafeteria.
