*The Scope of Rope In Our Ocean Backyard*
*Presented by Laura Ludwig, CCS Marine Debris Project Coord*inator
We love to eat lobster, fish n' chips, broiled haddock and crab cakes. We
love to support local fishermen and keep the age-old tradition of
small-boat fisheries alive. We understand that rope is an integral part of
any trap or gillnet fishing operation, and yet we are aware that rope is
often involved with marine mammal and sea turtle entanglements. There is
no easy answer to the question of how to have it all, but there are many
efforts being made on the part of fishermen, researchers, waste management
companies and artists that mitigate the impacts rope can have on both ends
of the spectrum. Learn about how "reduce, remove, replace, re-use and
recycle" applies to rope used by fishermen in New England.
7 pm at Napi’s Restaurant, 7 Freeman Street, Provincetown. Participants are
encouraged to arrive at 5 pm and enjoy Napi’s special early bird dinner!
