is an Adjunct Scientist at the Center for Coastal Studies and the Director of the
Dolphin Fleet's Research and Education Program.
For the past 30 years she has studied whales in the US, Chile, Brazil, and the Caribbean
and is now working world-wide to provide whale-watching workshops to promote responsible,
educational, and conservation oriented practices as part of the International Whaling
Commission.
Dr. Carlson will describe her work with a community in Chile (pictured below) to
 set up a locally run research organization that has taken great strides to protect
the whales off their coast.
