The CityLab Program at Bridgewater State University is again offering its biotechnology summer program for middle school students. Entitled Whale of a Mystery, the program is open to students entering grades 6-9 in the fall of 2013. Students in the program will conduct scientific research to solve a forensic mystery based on current scientific and legal proceedings regarding endangered whale and dolphin species.
Two separate sessions of Whale of a Mystery will be offered in July of 2013. Session one will run the week of July 8th to July 12th and Session two will be held July 15th to July 19th. The fee is $300 per student. All applicants are encouraged to apply early, since space is limited. Regular applications are accepted in the order in which they are received and are confirmed on a continuing basis until all the openings are filled.
A number of scholarships will be available for families with financial need. Scholarship applications require additional information, a written statement from the student, and a teacher's evaluation. These applications are competitive and must be postmarked by Saturday, May 11, 2013. Final decisions are made in June.
Attached is an announcement for the program. If you could copy and share with interested students or post in the school, we would appreciate it! Additional items can be downloaded from the BSU CityLab website: http://webhost.bridgew.edu/CityLab. We greatly appreciate your help in bringing this opportunity to the attention of students and parents and your help in identifying students who would benefit from a scholarship. Please feel free to download and photocopy application and advertising materials to give to those students who may not have access to them from home. For further information, please call 508-531-2630, or email citylab at bridgew.edu<mailto:citylab at bridgew.edu>. We thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Kim McCoy
