[SEMCO] Position Announcement: Ocean Explorium in New Bedford

The Ocean Explorium, located in the heart of downtown New Bedford, is
seeking enthusiastic interns and educators for part-time positions
working with SouthCoast families and school groups. It is the mission
of the Ocean Explorium to establish New Bedford as a center for ocean
science public education, with an emphasis on environmental stewardship
and science literacy.
*Part-Time Educator Apprentice Positions*
Qualified candidates will have experience in either formal or informal
educational settings, or a desire to gain this experience and grow in
this position. Experience with marine biology is preferred but not
required. Apprentices are expected to be enthusiastic, out-going,
personable, adaptable, eager to learn, and have the ability to manage
large groups of children and/or adults and work well in a team.
Educator responsibilities include, but are not limited to the
following: teach school groups using Ocean Explorium curriculum
materials on-site as well as off-site; monitor and teach at our touch
tanks containing local tide pool organisms, small sharks and sting rays;
present programs using the Science on a Sphere® and iPad interface on
topics including Ocean Science, Astronomy, Geology, Weather, Climate and
much more; lead hands-on activities that follow a changing theme in our
Explorer Zone; clean, organize and perform office work as needed.
Applicants must have completed a four year degree program and have a
valid driver's license. Applicants must also be willing to learn to
drive a large box truck. Educator Apprentice pay rates are between $10
and $12 per hour, with the ability to advance in the position.
*Part-Time Intern Positions*
Qualified candidates will have a desire to gain experience in informal
science education and grow in this position. Experience with marine
biology is preferred but not required. Interns are expected to be
enthusiastic, out-going, personable, adaptable, eager to learn, and have
the ability to manage large groups of children and/or adults and work
well in a team.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
teach school groups using Ocean Explorium curriculum materials on-site

license. If an applicant is age 25 or over, he or she must be willing
to learn to drive a large box truck. Internship position pay rates are
between $8 and $10 per hour, depending on previous experience.
