The Nature of Salt Marshes and Wastewater, part II
Friday, March 29, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Join Anne Giblin, Senior Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, for a presentation that will help us understand how increased nitrogen inputs alter nitrogen cycling in salt marshes, how salt marshes remove excess nitrogen, and how sewage treatment plants utilize some of these same mechanisms. This talk will also address the pros and cons of ocean outfalls. John Portnoy, former ecologist for the Cape Cod National Seashore, will deliver an introduction on the benefits of salt marshes. Giblin and Portnoy will be joined by Mass Audubon regional scientist Robert Buchsbaum for a panel discussion with the audience. Light refreshments will be served.
This program is free to members of the public and advance registration is not required. Reservations are accepted.
