Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
invites you to explore the winter sky with college lecturer and astronomer Joshua Roth
Connecting to the Cosmos: Amateur Astronomy for the Winter Sky
Saturday, February 9, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.
On a clear, moonless night, you can see stellar nurseries, glowing galaxies, and dazzling star clusters with inexpensive instruments - if you know how and where to look! In this two-hour workshop, we'll alternate between slide shows, hands-on activities, and - weather permitting - guided tours of the glorious winter sky (joined this year by the king of the planets, Jupiter). Amateur astronomer and college lecturer Joshua Roth will provide telescope-buying advice and numerous print and online resources to guide your exploration of the night sky and the universe we call home. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served.
$20 Members/$25 Nonmembers
For those of you who would like to introduce younger friends or family members to the wonders of the night sky, we're offering a family program earlier in the evening:
Family Stargaze: Winter Wonders
Saturday, February 9, 6 - 7 p.m.
The winter evening sky hosts many of the heavens' most beautiful sights, from the Milky Way and the Orion Nebula to the glittering Seven Sisters. On top of that, glorious Jupiter joins these luminaries this winter to make for an unforgettable celestial scenario. Amateur astronomer and college lecturer Joshua Roth will lead a stargazing experience for families with the unaided eye, binoculars, and telescopes. Hot cocoa with marshmallows will be served. If the weather is poor, we will enjoy learning about the night sky with fun, indoor activities.
$8 Members/$10 Nonmembers
