 The Life of Collections Out of the Public Eye: Storage, Care & Maintenance

with Kate Roderick

 

Kate Roderick, Curator at The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, tells us
it is estimated that 90% of a museum's collections are in storage and not on
display at any one time.  This is no different here at the Cape Cod Museum
of Natural History.  The collections room is a treasure trove of the weird
and wild as much as it is of the mundane and repetitive.

 

Kate will discuss why it is that these treasures are "hidden" away, how we
strive to maintain them for perpetuity, as well as why the mundane and
repetitive are just as important as the weird and wild.  She will also
discuss how the collection has grown over time and how it will continue to
evolve.

 

Will she bring some of these "hidden" away treasures for us to see?
