MITS Announces New Hybrid Professional Development Institutes!
(Online and Face-to-Face STEM)

On-Site Dates
July 8 - 12, 2013 in the Boston area
July 15 - 19, 2013 in the Southeast area

Take a Museum Institute for Teaching Science Hybrid Course that combines 10
hours of online learning with one week of face-to-face instruction at our
partner institutions. Each course will feature interdisciplinary STEM
content and inquiry-based, hands-on, minds-on exploration!

In Boston, compare how both animals and people skillfully adapt to their
environments. Find out about design skills that help us make livable spaces
and great architecture. Learn the science and engineering that create and
maintain the waterworks infrastructure that keeps the city alive. Partner
Institutions include Zoo New England, Metropolitan Waterworks Museum, and
Learning by Design.

In the Southeast, take a historical view of technology, design and land use.
Uncover the connections between the natural world and engineering design.
Explore salt marshes, wetlands, forests, fields and a marine mammal
rehabilitation facility. Partner Institutions include Lloyd Center for the
Environment, Buttonwood Park Zoo, Mass Audubon Oak Knoll and Stony Brook
Wildlife Sanctuaries, and National Marine Life Center.

Examine patterns and adaptations that inspire engineering solutions and new
technologies. Return to your classes with lots of classroom investigations
and resources, new content knowledge and skills!

Registration Cost: $350 ($25 discount if signing up with one or more
teachers from same school district).
Earn PDP’s. Graduate credits also available for an additional fee.

Spots are limited, so register today! Visit http://mits.org to read

What are MITS Summer Institutes?

MITS Summer Institutes are a unique professional development opportunity.
Visit each of the partner organization’s sites for 1-2 days and participate
in both content and skill development sessions taught by professional
educators, scientists and other content experts. Depending on the region,
daily activities will include: nature walks, behind-the-scenes tours of
facilities, introductions to resource centers, modeling of inquiry-based
activities and more. Days will include a balance of indoor, classroom-based
components and outdoor field experiences. All activities are designed to
help you meet State Frameworks and create interdisciplinary connections.
Participants can choose to receive PDPs, or graduate credit and PDPs.
