On Saturday September 22 the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies will
host the annual COASTSWEEP cleanup on Long Point Beach in Provincetown.
Last year local volunteers collected over 200 pounds of trash from Long
Point Beach. This year, COASTSWEEP coordinator Jesse Mechling hopes to
double those numbers.
Participants in the Long Point Cleanup should meet at the PCCS kiosk an
MacMillan Wharf just before 11 am; a shuttle provided by Flyer's Boat
Rentals will take volunteers to the beach. At 1 pm volunteers will return
to the wharf for a delicious lunch courtesy of Napi's Restaurant.
*Registration is required!* Please contact Jesse at 508-487-3623 x103 or
email jmechling at coastalstudies.org. Rain date is Sunday, September 23.
COASTSWEEP is part of the International Coastal Cleanup organized by Ocean
Conservancy in Washington, DC. Volunteers from all over the world collect
marine debris and record the types of trash they collect; this information
is then analyzed and used to identify sources of debris and to develop
education and policy initiatives to help reduce marine debris globally.
*Many thanks to Flyer's Boat Rentals, Napi's Restaurant and King Hiram's
Lodge for their support of COASTSWEEP 2012.*
