POSTION:  AQUARIST (part time)

 

STARTING DATE:  September 24, 2012

 

WORK SCHEDULE

-       Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday  (9:00am – 4:30pm) - some flexibility in schedule

-       Not to exceed 30 hours/week

 

DUTIES

-       Water quality monitoring and record-keeping

-       Water quality management (i.e. water changes, filter servicing)

-       Biological observation of tanks for changes in health, compatibility, aggression or any other unusual behavior.

-       Feeding (scheduled daily feedings with public engagement & education @ 11:00 and 2:00)

-       Exhibit aesthetics (i.e. tank cleaning, aquascaping, salt creep, acrylic/glass cleaning)

-       Exhibit installation, construction, plumbing, and mechanical repairs

-       Engagement with and education of the public (our visitors) – particularly during scheduled daily feedings

-       Other duties as assigned by Curator or senior staff

 

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

-       Strong desire/interest in aquariology/animal husbandry

-       Strong interest for animal welfare

-       Strong work ethic and desire to learn and grow

-       Willingness to learn and to be coached

-       Integrity, Reliability, Consistency, Responsibility

-       Enjoy working with people and engaging and educating the public about marine sciences, ecology and conservation

-       Demonstrated responsibility and working on your own

-       Consistently show initiative and desire to learn

-       Comfortable getting wet and dirty

-       Not averse to or affected by bad odors

-       Able to lift and carry a 6-gallon bucket of water (50 lbs)

-       On call 24/7 for emergencies

-       Willing to be very flexible in a changing work environment
