John Kricher - "Birding the Brazilian Pantanal" November 12, 2012
Brazil's vast seasonal wetland, the Pantanal, is habitat for a remarkable diversity of birds and other animals. Located between the Amazon rain forest and dry forest cerrado, the Pantanal is a natural hotspot for biodiversity, a land of hyacinth macaws, toco toucans, and giant anteaters. In this abundantly illustrated talk, author, ornithologist, and club member John Kricher will describe the region and discuss some of its remarkable wildlife, ranging from the highly endangered cone-billed tanager to the magnificent jaguar.
John Kricher is a professor of biology at Wheaton College and a resident of Cape Cod. He has written books on tropical ecology, the balance of nature, eastern forests, and the Galapagos Islands. He is currently revising his popular book, A Neotropical Companion.
