Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary invites you to
Jaws Comes Home: The Great White Shark on Cape Cod
Dr. Gregory Skomal, Mass. Marine Fisheries
Saturday, November 10, 2 - 3 p.m.
In recent years, great white sharks have been increasingly sighted off the coast of Massachusetts in increasing numbers. This presentation by Dr. Gregory Skomal, senior fisheries biologist with MA Marine Fisheries and the head of the MA Shark Research Program, will highlight the State's efforts to study the ecology and life history of the great white shark. It will center on what we know of this highly elusive species and discuss the first-time use of advanced technology to examine its behavior and movements in the Atlantic. Dr. Skomal will have copies of his book The Shark Handbook: The Essential Guide for Understanding the Sharks of the World available for purchase and signing.
Dr. Skomal is an accomplished marine biologist, underwater explorer, photographer, and author, whose shark research spans multiple fish habitats around the globe, from the Arctic Circle to the central Pacific. In 2009, he began a white shark tagging program - the first successful tags deployed in the western Atlantic. He has appeared in programs for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and ESPN.
