How does fire help to protect the natural beauty of Cape Cod? Join Cape Cod National Seashore Fire Management officer David Crary for a workshop on prescription burns. A 45-minute illustrated lecture at our sanctuary will be followed by a 90-minute tour of burn sites at Marconi that are in different stages of treatment.

He supervises, manages, plans and implements the wildland fire management program of the Cape Cod National Seashore and other National Park Units in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His responsibilities include providing program direction, developing fire management plans, suppression and control of wildfires, preparing environmental assessments, identifying research needs, collecting and analyzing scientific data, prescribed burning training, and supervising fire prevention, detection, suppression, and wildland fire use and fuels management programs.
