Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod will host its AmeriCorps Week of
Service in Dennis and is inviting community members to volunteer their time
on Friday May 18th and Saturday May 19th. Come serve “From Shoop to Shore”
with AmeriCorps at Shoop-Johnson Community Garden, located at 1824 Main St.
in Dennis, MA. Friday will be a day of service that begins at 8:30 AM and
continues until 4:30 PM. Come when you can, leave when you must! Saturday
will consist of the opportunity to serve from 9 AM until Noon, at which
time a celebration of our success will commence. Projects for both days
consist of stone wall restoration, fence installation, invasive species
removal, compost bin construction, gardening, trail maintenance, trail
marker creation, and more!
There will be two special learning opportunities during the week as well.
On Tuesday May 15th, Diane Silverstein and Carolyn Kennedy will be hosting
a lesson on how to monitor bluebird boxes from 4 PM to 5 PM. No prior
experience or knowledge is necessary for this event. On Thursday, May 17th,
Brian Everett will be providing the opportunity to learn how to shellfish
from 4:30 PM-6:30 PM. Those interested must have a Dennis Shellfish license
(Available at Dennis Town Hall: $20 for Residents, $65 for non-residents),
chest waders, shellfish rakes, and wire baskets. This lesson will meet in
the parking lot at the end of Cove Rd in West Dennis.
