[SEMCO] Professional Development Workshop NB Whaling Museum

"Schooling With Whales," a Professional Development Workshop at the New
Bedford Whaling Museum, in partnership with the Museum Institute for
Teaching Science (MITS), will be offered on the first weekend in May -
Saturday, May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 from 12:00
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This ten-hour professional development course will
introduce teachers of grades 3-6 to whale/cetacean related topics which
can be used to teach concepts prescribed by state core science,
mathematics and literacy frameworks.

 

Whales may not travel in schools the way that fish do. But, they can be
used within several disciplines in a school building to help us teach
several important concepts. This ten hour workshop will demonstrate ways
to use whales and their kin to teach food chains, math, geography,
reading comprehension and taxonomy. You'll leave with a packet of
activities, links to useful web sites and a greater appreciation for
whales, dolphins and porpoises.   

 

Tuition for the course is $30. Completion of the course provides ten
(10) Professional Development Points (PDPs). In addition, one (1)
graduate credit is available through Cambridge College. Graduate credit
