Education Programs Coordinator



The Ocean Explorium is currently seeking an Education Programs Coordinator.
The coordinator coordinates the development and implementation of all
educational activities at the Ocean Explorium.  This position is
responsible for fiscal management of education budgets including
educational grants, scheduling and evaluation of education programs. They
will hire, schedule, train and provide general supervision and direction to
educators, interns, and education volunteers. The coordinator will teach
programs, as needed, including Ocean Explorium public interactions, WOW
Mobile outreach programs, field trips, staff educational training and
teacher professional development.   The responsibilities of this position
also include fostering community and Explorium interactions, working
closely with the surrounding school systems and designing new dynamic
programming as needed.  The coordinator will assist in grant writing.  The
coordinator will also be responsible for updating Ocean Explorium
educational programs to include pedagogical best practices, up to date
content, conservation messages and technology.



Knowledge and experience in both formal and informal education pedagogy and
best practices preferred. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal
communication, as well as technical and organizational skills, is required.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in
education, marine science, or a closely related field is required. A
Master’s degree in education, marine science, or a closely related field is
preferred. At least three years supervisory experience and a minimum of
three years experience in a position related to education and/or
interpretive programs are required. Knowledge of the Science on a Sphere®
is preferred, but not required.  Ability to speak Spanish desirable, but
not required. Must be able to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays as
needed.  Deadline to submit for this position is June 11, 2012.
