Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary invites you to
Climate Change, Sea Level Rise, and Piping Plovers
Rob Thieler, United States Geological Survey
Saturday, January 28, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
FREE with sanctuary admission
Dr. Rob Thieler of the U.S. Geological Survey in Woods Hole will
introduce the fundamentals of climate change and sea level rise and
describe what the future may hold for both people and plovers in the
coastal zone. Coastal management decisions, such as shoreline
stabilization and beach nourishment, will strongly influence the effects
of sea-level rise on the piping plover, a beach-nesting bird protected
under the Endangered Species Act. Learn how federal and state agencies,
non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions are
collaborating to develop an understanding of how the coastal environment
may change in the coming century and how plovers may respond to
increases or decreases in habitat.
