Sustainability Activist and Author John Perkins to speak
"Geo-Politics, The Future, and You: A Call To Action
<https://www.facebook.com/#%21/events/289204071155988/>"
Tuesday, April 17th from 6:30 - 9:00
Free and Open to the Public

John Perkins will discuss his experiences as an economic hit man, the empire that resulted, and the plan presented in his book Hoodwinked
for creating a sustainable, just, and peaceful world. He will discuss the epiphany that initiated his personal change and the reasons he is
optimistic that we can create human societies our children will be proud to inherit.

John Perkins is an advocate for sustainable lifestyles, and expert about global economic strategies, and New York Times bestselling author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man and Hoodwinked in which he describes the career of his youth spent traveling to undeveloped countries and exploiting them for oil and natural resource reserves on behalf of what he has termed the "corporatocracy" that controls world finance.

John Perkins' appearance is part of the UMass Dartmouth Sustainability Initiative's "Finding Our Voices series. As a campus, the University is exploring the link between the decline in American civil liberties and the lack of debate about sustainability and economic issues on a meaningful level. Perkins' classic exposé, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, spent over 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller lists and is published in more than 30 languages. His message underscores the need for each individual to appreciate the roles they play in creating a sustainable or unsustainable world, a just or unjust society.

UMass Dartmouth's Sustainability Initiative encourages all of us to appreciate the freedoms of speech we enjoy in this country, to take responsibility for acting against threats to our civil liberties, and to develop a voice in politics and activism that supports a just, sustainable, and peaceful future.
John Perkin's appearances on the SouthCoast are co-sponsored by Bristol Community College's Center for Sustainability and Post-Carbon Education.
