FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Lexicon Of Sustainability Pop Up Art Show Cultivates The Language Of The Local Foods Movement At How On Earth.

The Lexicon of Sustainability, a photo collage project by artist Douglas Gayeton, has selected How on Earth in Mattapoisett, MA, as one of 100 curators around the country to host a Pop Up Art Show. The Lexicon project has generously donated 50 large format photos to be shared with the community through two Pop Up Art Shows in the region. The first will be at How on Earth on October 6th and the second will be at the Connecting for Change conference the weekend of October 21st-23rd in New Bedford. After the two shows, the artwork will be donated to a local school or non-profit organization for permanent display.

On Thursday, October 6th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, How on Earth will host the Lexicon photos during an open house and educational workshop. The event will feature acoustic music by Neal McCarthy, local wine and beer at cost, free appetizers prepared by Chef Colin Bradley, and a Fermentation Workshop led by Bay Club Chef Jim Mercer. The event is free and open to the public. The Fermentation Workshop will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm and those interested are encouraged to RSVP due to space constraints. The Workshop will introduce participants to the tradition and craft of lacto-fermentation and its health benefits. Participants can expect to come away with an introduction to Sauerkraut, Kim-chi, Kombucha, Vinegar, Pickles, and more! RSVP by calling How on Earth at 508-758-1341 or emailing thestore at howonearth.net as soon as possible.

The Lexicon of Sustainability project is based on a simple premise: people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they don’t even know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability. The project has spent the last three years learning this language from the foremost practitioners in food and farming: Alice Waters, Vandana Shiva, Will Allen and dozens more! These insights have been transformed into large format “information art” photo collages to be shared through 100 Pop Up Art Shows around the country.
