Estuaries Alive!
Celebrate National Estuaries Day with a hands-on exploration of Waquoit Bay. We'll use nets, buckets and magnifiers to explore the marsh and shoreline for aquatic life and learn why estuaries are called the nurseries of the sea.
Waquoit Bay Reserve Estate Tour
Saturday, September 24th 11:00AM - Noon
Discover the history of this former summer estate and learn about plans to up-date structures and grounds to better serve the mission of the Reserve while touring this magnificent property overlooking Waquoit Bay. With views of South Cape Beach and Martha's Vineyard in the distance, you'll learn the story of this waterfront mansion and why it sat vacant for almost 50 years. Hear about the estate's former owners and of the determined group of local citizens that worked to save the property from development more than 20 years ago. Learn about on-going research, the importance of estuaries and ways that you can get involved.
Friday, October 7th - 9:30 to 11:30 AM
Wetlands Walkabout - Cape Cod Pathways Walking Weekend
Observe fabulous fall colors in fresh and salt water wetlands as we travel the pathways and board walks of the Flat Pond Trail. From viewing platforms we'll look for ducks and seasonal migrants and hike through pine/oak woodlands searching for signs of wildlife, fall wildflowers, berries and mushrooms.
Meet at the Bayberry Parking Lot at South Cape Beach State Park.
