Where The Wild Foods Are! A Wild Edibles Walk

Saturday, October 15th, 10:30 - 11:30ish
What wild foods live in your local landscape? Join Horticulturist,
Master Gardener, and teacher/naturalist Deirdre Detjens for a walk of
Long Pasture seeking edible and useful plants as well as pointing out
invasive species. You'll be surprised by how many species we discover. 
 $6 members/ $8 nonmembers

 

 

Cultivate Your Own Mushroom Workshop  
Sunday, October 16th 1pm - 3 pm

Learn how to grow your own shiitake mushrooms with Tamar Haspel of
Starving off the Land. You'll get an overview of how mushrooms grow, and
then we'll be inoculating oak logs by drilling holes in the wood and
hammering in spore-laden dowels. You'll get to take one of the logs
home. should have your first flush of shiitakes next season.  

$16 members/$18 non-members

Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the north side of Rt 6a in
Barnstable.  Trails are open daily dawn to dusk.  Sanctuary admission is
free for members; $4 adults, $3 children for non-members. Call (508)
