Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary Presents

March Bird Madness

BIRDS A-Z: ALCIDS AND AUKS TO ZONE-TAILED HAWKS
Learn to Bird Before Spring in 4 classes!
               Wednesdays, March 9th - 30th, 6:30 - 8pm

Shy about shorebirds? Intimidated by 20 lb. bird books? Come explore the
Class Aves, and birds that were "just birds" will become recognizable
and familiar. For the beginning or brushing up birder, we will cover the
identification and classification of North American Birds with a bit of
anatomy, biology, behavior and conservation. Participants can also
attend a free bird program or get a $10 discount on a Cuttyhunk trip.
$36 members, $44 nonmembers

Bird Ornament Workshop
Saturday, March 12th , 9 am - 3 pm

Begin a new tradition! Carve and paint a smooth bird ornament (choose
from several species). Bird Carver Roger Jenks will lead you through the
process from simple form to finished creation - a wonderful decoration.
Price includes materials and instruction with a carving knife for future
projects. $40 members/45 nm

Name That Duck!
Saturday, March 19th, 10 am - 12 pm Outdoor Program
Though our winter may seem blustery and bleak at times, many birds fly
south to "tropical" Cape Cod for the season! If birds seem scarce, you
need only look to Barnstable Harbor for scoters, scaups, eiders,
mergansers and other sea ducks and birds who find our chilly climate
quite comfortable. $6 members/8 nm

So You Think You Can Dance?

Friday, March 25th, 6:15 pm
The American Woodcock struts, spirals into the sky, hovers whirring and
twittering, then zigzags down to where he started and begins again.
Hopefully, the wild gyrations of this odd-looking shorebird will impress
the female judges. Come watch the reclusive woodcock make a spectacle of
himself during his twilight courtship dance at Long Pasture. $6
members/$8 nm
