Gulf Communications Manager

LOCATION: New Orleans, LA
DEPARTMENT: Marketing & Communications
REPORTS TO: Director, Strategic Marketing & Communications
DURATION: Full-time

Ocean Conservancy's Marketing & Communications team strives to inform, inspire and empower the public to take action. We pride ourselves on reaching key constituencies in new and innovative ways, building Ocean Conservancy's brand promise via strategic partnerships and working with our program teams to win real changes that protect and promote ocean health.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Communications Manager is responsible for leading media outreach and developing and implementing communications strategy for Ocean Conservancy's Restoration and Fisheries work in the entire Gulf of Mexico region. As part of Ocean Conservancy's Marketing & Communications Department, the Communications Manager works closely with Gulf Restoration and Fisheries program team members to achieve program and communications goals.

Required Qualifications:

 *   Degree in journalism, communications, public policy or other relevant field
 *   Track record of successful media outreach
 *   Strategic communications capacity and the ability to convey complex policy questions to the media and other key audiences
 *   Strong oral and written communication skills
 *   Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and function effectively as part of a team
 *   Demonstrated ability to work effectively in the Gulf of Mexico region

Other/Personal Characteristics:

 *   A strategic thinker who can bring the creativity, energy, discipline and commitment needed to promote Ocean Conservancy's message on Gulf restoration
 *   A high-level performer with the ability to move rapidly in response to communications opportunities as they present themselves
 *   Attentive to details and able to adhere strictly to deadlines and deliverables while keeping a larger vision in mind
 *   Highly collaborative with an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach
 *   Personable, passionate, productive, and focused on advancing the cause of ocean conservation
