Coastal Waterbird Program
Director
Location: Barnstable, MA
Mass Audubon is seeking a full-time Director for its Coastal Waterbird
Program. The Program is responsible for assisting landowners with the
protection of plovers, terns and oystercatchers on more than 100 public
and private beaches across Southeastern Massachusetts, including the
Cape and Islands. The Director is responsible for overseeing all
aspects of the Program, including fundraising, budget management, staff
and volunteer management, permitting, media relations, education and
outreach, public and community relations, and data collection and
research. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with
regional sanctuary staff to carry out the Program, and promote a clear
and consistent vision for the Program, consistent with Mass Audubon's
strategic plan and statewide priorities. The Director reports to Mass
Audubon's Southeast, Cape and Islands Regional Director.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. (M.S. preferred) in Environmental Science, Wildlife or Natural
Resource Management, Conservation Biology, Ecology or related field plus
at least three to five years experience. Experience should include
field work with coastal birds, and familiarity with regulatory issues
affecting management of wildlife, including rare species. Demonstrated
abilities in all aspects of program management including budgeting,
staff and volunteer management, hiring, fundraising, and policy and
program development. Outstanding written and verbal communication
skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Ability to operate a vehicle and boat, construct fencing, and conduct
outdoor fieldwork. Valid drivers' license and an ability to lift 40
pounds and traverse uneven terrain is required. Must be able to work
flexible hours, including some weekend work during the field season.
