Sharks: Movements and Migrations in the Western North Atlantic

Dr. Bradley M. Wetherbee, Department of Biological Sciences, University
of Rhode Island

Tracking sharks with satellite transmitters has revealed seasonal
movements of blue, mako, tiger, and sand tiger sharks in and out of
Massachusetts waters. Follow these journeys, which have taken the
sharks throughout Western Atlantic, into bays, along the coast, around
islands, and into the open ocean, along pathways that span thousands of
miles and many months - and learn about the shark's ability to cover
impressive distances and navigate very effectively.

August 10

Piping Plovers

Kathy Parsons, Director of the Coastal Waterbird Program at Mass Audubon

Piping plovers migrate to and nest on Cape Cod beaches each summer.
Learn more about the courtship displays and nesting rituals, find out
what banding plovers in the Bahamas has taught us about migration
ecology, and discover how our local research efforts contribute to the
recovery of the piping plover population.

August 17

Leatherback Sea Turtles

Connie Merigo, Director of Marine Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation at
the New England Aquarium

Explore the unique natural abilities of the world's largest living
turtle, the leatherback sea turtle. Learn about the insights we have
gained into their distinctive behavior and anatomy through years of
research in Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound and the northwest Atlantic
Ocean.

We hope to see you soon!

Best,

Amy
