The Bering Strait Fur Trade: Native and Foreign Competition for Its Control in the Nineteenth Century

John Bockstoce will deliver a fully illustrated lecture on the competition among native and foreign nations to control the flow of furs across Bering Strait from North America to Asia, a competition that involved Russia, Great Britain, the United States and fifty native nations.  

 

This talk is based on his most recently published book, Furs and Frontiers in the Far North: The Contest among Native and Foreign Nations for the Bering Strait Fur Trade. Copies of the book will be available for sale during the book signing after the lecture.



Doors open at 6:15pm for refreshment and mingling amid the SEA & ICE exhibit.  Talk begins at 7 p.m.  Ocean Voice Admission: $3/Adults, $2/Senior, Child
