Public Forum: “Cash for Caulkers: Stimulus Opportunities for Home Energy Improvements”

Wednesday, February 17, 7 to 9 pm, Waquoit Bay Reserve, 149 Waquoit Highway (Rte. 28), Waquoit (E. Falmouth)

This forum, sponsored by Cape & Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative (CIRenew) and Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, will feature Rep. Matt Patrick discussing proposed Property Assessed Clean Energy bond legislation and representatives from Cape Light Compact and National Grid discussing how residents can benefit from the generous incentives available through the state’s revamped energy efficiency programs. Compact and NGrid speakers will also address how local contractors can qualify to provide building performance, weatherization, and efficiency services to residents through these programs. Finally, certified public accountant,  Randy Hunt will address the federal tax credit of up to $1500 available for home energy improvements, as well as other efficiency and renewable energy incentives. All speakers will be available to answer questions. Open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

This program is designed for homeowners who are beginning to explore their options and want to know more about the possibilities for wind, solar hot water, solar electricity, and bioheat, and whether any other renewable energy options are viable for Cape Cod. Find out the advantages and disadvantages of different types, how to locate and work with an installer, and what incentives are currently available in Massachusetts. Do you know the biggest mistake that homeowners make when installing renewable energy?. Megan Amsler, Director of Cape and Islands Self-Reliance and instructor for the Renewable Energy class at Cape Cod Community College is the presenter for this program. Co-sponsored by Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Cape and Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative, and Cape and islands Self-Reliance.
