Job Description:  Project Greenscape Coordinator
Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Naples, Florida

Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (www.rookerybay.org<http://www.rookerybay.org/>) in Naples, Florida seeks a full-time, contract employee to coordinate a new initiative called Project Greenscape.  The purpose of Project Greenscape is to encourage the use of best practices to minimize potential non-point sources of pollution associated with landscaping activities such as plant selection, pesticide use, watering and fertilization through training, education, public outreach and partnerships.  Key tasks include:

*         Deliver the existing Green Industries Best Management Practices (BMP) training in Southwest Florida in English and in Spanish on a monthly basis for landscape and lawn care professionals.  This includes scheduling dates, speakers and locations, conducting high quality programs including registration, tracking payment, attendance, materials, certification, arranging logistics, evaluation, summary reports and quarterly reports.
*         Design and deliver presentations and trainings in English and in Spanish related to Project Greenscape and to promote sustainable landscaping practices.
*         Design and conduct thorough program and project evaluations of all educational events and came competency in the NOAA required evaluations.
*         Work with the City of Naples to meet their needs and those of landscape professionals to comply with the City Resolution requiring BMP training.
*         Liaison with the City of Marco Island and Collier County for similar ordinance support as with the City of Naples.
*         Work with the GI-BMP Regional Coordinator and the University of Florida to support a regional GI-BMP training center that including a train-the-trainer program and Spanish language programs.
*         Create, produce, order and/or distribute materials relating to Project Greenscape and the GI-BMP Training including workshop announcements, web postings, letters, decals, certification materials, training materials as necessary.
*         Conduct on-going needs assessments of landscape companies and contractors working in Naples to determine their training needs.
*         Partner with various companies and groups, including the media, to gain visibility, get donations and recruit community support.
*         Identify and pursue opportunities to partner with landscape companies and municipalities to educate homeowners, homeowner associations, garden centers and other related entities.
*         Write grants to obtain ongoing funding for the Project Greenscape programs, projects and personnel.

The project is part of the National Estuarine Research Reserve (http://nerrs.noaa.gov<http://nerrs.noaa.gov/>) Coastal Training Program which provides professionals with knowledge, skills and access to technology to help resolve complex environmental issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must speak and write English and have a valid driver's license and Spanish language skills are preferred. They must have excellent communication and organizational skills including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel, be adept at working with diverse audiences including teaching and outreach experience, and be able to organize trainings.  Bachelor's degree required in relevant field such as education, science or policy, a Master's degree is preferred.

Work Location, Compensation and Contact Information
The Project Greenscape Coordinator will work at Rookery Bay Headquarters (300 Tower Rd, Naples, FL 34113), report to the Rookery Bay Coastal Training Coordinator and will have occasional in-state travel.  The candidate will become OPS personnel for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  There are no benefits, paid holidays or sick leave provided at this time.  Salary range is $34,000 - $36,000 for the year.  Start date is January 2011 and end date is to be determined.
