Make Your Presence (Presents) Count

Tuesday, December 7th

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Waquoit Bay Reserve continues its monthly First Tuesdays forums at the Visitor Center with, "Make Your Presence (Presents) Count: A Cape-Friendly Holiday." Elspeth Hay, who hosts "The Local Food Report" on WCAI, and blogs on local foods will be the featured speaker.

An avid locavore, Elspeth will reveal where to find locally grown foods on the Cape this time of year and share some recipes and ideas for using them for festive holiday entertaining as well as thoughtful gifts. Reserve staff will share additional information on choosing gifts that will benefit the environment as well as the recipients. There will also be tips on [cid:image004.jpg at 01CB922C.FC82FBD0] energy saving decorations and environmentally oriented gadgets, stocking stuffers, and other creative ideas to make your presents meaningful. Energy Star catalogs will be distributed and we will wrap up with a discussion where participants can share their own tips.

Following the presentations, there will be a hands-on session led by Amelia Alves where participants can make and take holiday decorations and wrappings using ordinary recycled and reused materials. Amelia founded VER-De-NOVO; an organization dedicated to promoting recycling. Alves will also display her intricately beaded designs on sweaters she has rescued. The Reserve's gift store will be open this evening for people wishing to purchase gift items to support reserve activities. Doors open at 6:45; we'll serve festive, locally grown treats and hot mulled cider. The program will start at 7 pm and last until 8:30.
