POSITION TITLE: Coastal Scientist II FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Perform
project work and research for coastal jobs, particularly as the work relates
to analysis of environmental monitoring data and impact analyses. The
candidate will assist senior scientists and engineers with related tasks in
an independent manner. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform literature reviews and background research for new project areas.
* Review project results, documents, and field data collection programs to
verify accuracy and completeness in content and approach.
* Assist with alternatives analyses for coastal and marine projects,
including the dredging of contaminated and fine-grained sediments.
* Conduct environmental impact analyses for coastal and marine projects by
evaluating physical, biological, and chemical changes associated with
proposed projects.
* Prepare report quality graphical and geospatial summaries of project data
to support alternatives analyses and environmental impact analyses.
* Incorporate field and laboratory data into well written and clearly
presented reports.
* Assist with technical report writing and proposal preparation.
* Demonstrate teamwork, compatibility, and professionalism with other staff
members and clients.
* Candidate will be expected to develop skills and advance in capabilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Senior Scientist/Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, geology,
geosciences, or marine biology. Preferable candidate will have a Master¹s
degree in marine or physical sciences.
* Strong understanding and interest in coastal and marine sciences,
including physical, biological and chemical processes.
* 3-5 years of experience in a related field.
* Experience with database and ArcGIS software desired.
* Excellent writing, organization, record keeping and documentation skills.
* Familiarity with dredging projects and dredged materials management
activities strongly desired.
