Become an Eco-Conscious Consumer at "Buy Green"
"Shrink Your Footprint Series" Continues at Buttonwood Park Zoo
Sponsored by eight local environmental organizations, the "Shrink Your
Footprint Series" continues at New Bedford's Buttonwood Park Zoo on
Saturday, February 21st from 10 a.m. to noon with "Buy Green," the
second event in a series of three. "Buy Green" will demonstrate simple
ways for people to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, thereby reducing
their negative impact on the environment.
"Buy Green" will consist of a three-part lecture and a workshop. Earth
Sisters Soap and Candles <http://earthsistersherbals.com/> will provide
information about the importance of using all natural soaps and candles
not only for your health, but also for the health of the environment.
The 'G' Green Design Center <http://ggreendesign.com/> will discuss
green home design choices, and educate participants about eco-friendly
building materials, as well as home energy efficiency. Lastly, author
and green cleaning guru Leslie Reichert
<http://www.thecleaningcoach.us/> will share green cleaning secrets and
lead a hands-on workshop where participants will create their own green
cleaning solution to take home.
The Shrink Your Footprint Series is designed to help people reduce their
negative environmental impact, energy use, water use and expenses
through lectures and workshops. All events, which are held at
Buttonwood Park Zoo's Education Center, are free thanks to funding from
a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Southeastern
Massachusetts and the Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance
(SEEAL). The sponsoring agencies are: Buttonwood Park Zoo, Dartmouth
Natural Resources Trust, Lloyd Center for the Environment, Mass
Audubon's Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, The Coalition for Buzzards
Bay, The Marion Institute, Trustees of Reservations and Westport River
Watershed Alliance.
The third event in the series, "Water Green," will be held on Saturday,
March 21.
Last month, nearly 100 individuals attended "Eat Green" which featured
speakers from Silverbrook Farm <http://www.silverbrookdartmouth.com/>
- an organic farm located in Dartmouth, Westport's Bayside Restaurant
<http://www.thewestportbayside.com/> - the first green certified
restaurant in Massachusetts, and Nuestras Raices
<http://www.nuestras-raices.org/> - a grass-roots organization that
promotes economic, human and community development in Holyoke through
projects relating to food, agriculture and the environment. Select
participants created window box gardens with containers and herbs
donated by Quansett Nurseries <http://www.quansettnurseries.com/> and
door prize winners brought home more than $200 in prizes.
