The Shrink Your Footprint Series returns to Buttonwood Park Zoo this
year with all new themes for events. The Series is designed to help
everyone reduce their environmental impact, energy use, water use, and
expenses through lectures and workshops. The first event in the series
is Eat Green on Saturday, January 17th starting at 10 AM. This event
will focus on not only purchasing sustainably-grown and local products,
but also growing your own food. The event will consist of a three-part
lecture and a workshop. Andy Pollock, from Silverbrook Farms will
discuss local organic farming and the benefits of being a locavore.
Nancy Carroll, from the Bayside Restaurant, will discuss what foods at
restaurants and grocery stores are environmentally friendly and which
ones should be avoided. The workshop will focus on growing food in
urban areas and other areas that might not seem conducive to planting.
These are all free events thanks to funding from a $5000 grant from the
Community Foundation and SEEAL. The sponsoring agencies are: Buttonwood
Park Zoo, The Coalition for Buzzards Bay, The Marion Institute, Trustees
of Reservations, Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust, the Lloyd Center for
the Environment, Massachusetts Audubon Allen's Pond Wildlife Sanctuary,
Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance, and the Westport River
Watershed Alliance.

The Eat Green event will be followed by the Buy Green event on February
21st and the Water Green event on March 21st.
